Horsley U12 still unbeaten...
Horsley 3; Woking Town Jets 3
The under 12 boys team dropped their first points of the season on Sunday in a hard fought 3-3 draw against top of the table Woking Town Jets.
Having already played 3 league matches in a lower division and subsequently being moved up this was only their second match in the new division.
Woking proved to be a tough side but Horsley could have taken the lead in the first minute when Ross Jenne shot over from the edge of the box but it was Woking that took the lead after a mistake in the heart of defence left an open goal and a simple tap in.
Horsley equalised just a few minutes later when good work from Sam Gatford put Matthew Beaumont through with just the keeper to beat and he didn’t disappoint. However more, poor defending gifted Woking a second and they lead at half time 2-1.
Even though they trailed at the interval Horsley were playing some good stuff so more of the same was required. Early in the second half Matthew Beaumont got his second cutting in from the right and his shot gave the keeper no chance as it curled into the top corner to level the scores again.
With this impetus Horsley pushed on for a winner but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing meant the score stayed level.
Woking to be fair also created some chances but it was a route-one long kick from the keeper which cleared the Horsley defence to easily and a good cross left Ethan Martin stranded in goal as the Woking centre forward tapped in and easy third.
Horsley continued to press but it was now to get back on level terms rather than to win the match. With time running out a Horsley corner was met by Ross Jenne and his header bulleted into the goal to give Horsley a deserved draw.
3-3 at full time and a well deserved draw for both teams in an even match played in a good competitive spirit by both sets of players and match by both sets of supporters. Just how an under 12 football match should be!
