Horsley Football Club in Africa!
In the first week of June Steffan Perkins our Under 15 Girls manager visited the rural Ugandan school ‘Buhuhira Joy of hope nursery and primary school’ . It is found in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains in Kasese District of Western Uganda.
The village is called Kuruhe. The village is at 1,500m above sea level . The whole of Uganda is quite poor but this is a rural community, with no real roads even the one Steffan used to get to the village was hacked out by locals with hoes. There is no running water save the rivers coming from the glaciers and one pit toilet serves the entire village. The locals are subsistence farmers who act as porters when an expedition turns up.
Steffan had brought Horsley FC football kits and bibs to donate to the village , the kids were delighted to receive them and quickly got to work with Steffan in a football training session . The bibs too were immediately put to use in a game of netball too !
